Obituary

Lois Grant, 90, of Grinnell and formerly of Winona, Minnesota, died Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Mayflower Community Homes. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2016, in the Carman Center of the Mayflower Community. Visitation will be at 1:30 before the service. Interment will be at a later date in Bush Cemetery in Ridgeway, Minnesota. Memorials may be directed the Lois A. Grant Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Lois was born on March 26, 1926, in Barre Mills, Wisconsin to Vernon and Elenore Bell Grant. She moved to Winona where she attended school. Lois worked from home as a seamstress and enjoyed crafts. She liked to attend the local craft shows and show her work. Lois enjoyed traveling. She took a train trip to Little Rock, Arkansas, went to Branson, Louisville, Kentucky to the World's Fair, Pennsylvania and drove through Canada to get to New Jersey. Her greatest love was spending time with her family. She was very active in the Wesley United Methodist Church in Winona. Lois enjoyed being part of the United Methodist Women, the Church Circle, the Senior Friendship Center and helping with Sunday school. Lois attended several concerts of the Winona Hims; she loved to hear them sing. She also belonged to the Lois Club. Lois will be remembered by her daughters, Mary Smith of Altoona, Iowa, Carol (Jane Kent) Grant of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Joni (Leon) McNutt of Houston, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Niki, Amy, Louis, Laura, David, Adam and Ben; four great grandchildren, Caroline, Holden, Madden and Westly and her sister, June Schrier of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Mayflower Community. Both the residents and staff have had a lasting impact on our lives.
