Lloyd F. Hauersperger, 86, of Kellogg, died December 18, 2008, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 22, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Pastor Walt Claussen, pastor of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be Mike, Raymond, and Rick Brown, Henry Hauersperger, Gary Henry, and Matt Oleson. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kellogg American Legion.
The son of Adam and Elizabeth Kriegel Hauersperger, he was born September 14, 1922, in Rhodes, Iowa. He was raised in the Rock Creek area and attended rural school near his home. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II.
On May 10, 1947, Lloyd was married to Helen Marie Johnson, in Marshalltown. The couple lived in Kellogg for several years prior to moving to a farm in Hickory Grove Township. In 1990, they moved to Mariposa Township. Prior to farming, he had worked as a welder at Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg and also ran Hauersperger Trucking for 5 years.
Lloyd was a member of the Farm Bureau, Kellogg American Legion, and the V.F.W. He enjoyed woodworking, stock car races, and playing cards.
Survivors include two children, Beverley (Charles) Henry of Deep River and Jerry (Patty) Hauersperger of Newton; three grandchildren, Gary Henry of Deep River and Dalton and ValiJo Hauersperger of Newton; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Lindsey Henry of Deep River; and his friend, Pauline Ackland of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen in 1996; four brothers, Edward, Henry, Sylvester, and Floyd Hauersperger; and three sisters, Margaret Shank, Ethel Holdnerness, and Anna Brown.
