Lisa K. Adkins, 65, of Grinnell died on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Mayflower Healthcare Center in Grinnell.
A memorial service is scheduled for 12:00 PM, Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Smith Funeral Home - Grinnell. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 11:00 AM. The Family invites friends for a celebration of life reception at the Eagles following the memorial service. Burial will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery at a later date.
If desired, memorial contributions may be designated to Drake Community Library and mailed in care of Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
Lisa was born on August 30, 1958 in Grinnell, IA to parents James Edward and Esther Allen Adkins. She was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1976. Lisa was outgoing and very involved in high school, she was in the marching band, cheerleading, pep club, and honor society. Lisa continued her education at Grinnell College then Iowa State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts in interior design. Following her education, Lisa returned to Grinnell and worked as a librarian for Grinnell College for over 30 years until her retirement.
Lisa enjoyed animals, traveling and the arts; she had many fond memories of adventures to Scottland and Egypt, and she was a talented artist, and listened to all kinds of music. In high school Lisa played the bassoon and saxophone. She found joy in anything that sparkled. Christmas was her favorite time of year; she enjoyed the traditions and togetherness the season brought. Lisa especially loved socializing at dinners and galas with her Grinnell College co-workers, friends and family.
Lisa is survived by her mother, Esther Adkins; siblings, Gene Adkins (Michelle) and Lacinda Hanson (Michael); nieces and nephews, Stephen Ramerth (Melissa), Mathew Ramerth (Violet Ohnstad) and Megan Ramerth (Brandon Ferguson). She was preceded in death by her father, James "Ed" Adkins and brother Philip Adkins.
