Linda K. Folkerds, age 64, of Grinnell, died on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center with her family by her side. A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 22, 2012, at Herrick Chapel on the Grinnell College campus, with the Rev. Deanna L. K. Shorb, Grinnell College Chaplain, officiating. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Charlie Bills, Brandon Bills, Mark Bills, Andy Bills, Dean Miller and her neighbor and good friend Paul Swick. Visitation will begin at 12 noon on Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. The family will be present to greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Memorials may be designated to Grinnell Regional Hospice and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with her family at www.smithfh.com. Linda was born on July 15, 1948, in Hampton, Iowa to Myrna (Blankenship) Bills. She was raised in Rockwell, Iowa and graduated from Rockwell High School with the class of 1966. She later received her Associate's degree from Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa. On November 28, 1986, she was united in marriage to Roger Lee Folkerds at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hampton, Iowa. They moved to Grinnell in 1987. Linda worked at the Manly Law Firm for thirteen years before beginning employment at Grinnell College as an administrative support assistant in the Treasurer's Office. Linda dearly loved her family and cherished spending time with her grandchildren. She held a special love for her dogs. Linda looked forward to the holidays, especially Christmas, when she would decorate the family home and bake the cut-out cookies she was famous for. Her enjoyments included baking, going out to eat, attending craft shows, going to the casino, shopping, attending car races in Newton, dancing and playing games like Sequence, Farkle, UNO and 500, to name a few. She was a member of the Grinnell Eagles Club. Linda was active in bowling, softball and volleyball leagues in her earlier years. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Roger L. Folkerds of Grinnell; daughters, Julie (Rick) Bates of Des Moines, IA, Dawn (Rusty) Rupp of Center Junction, IA; and Mollie Warburton of Grinnell, grandchildren, Jarrod Bates of Des Moines, Amanda Bates of Ottumwa, IA, and Peyton Rupp of Center Junction. She was preceded in death by her mother, Myrna Bills; and her sister, Elaine Evans.
