Obituary

Linda Dianne Claeys, 58, of Victor, died November 1, 2008, at her home of cancer. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 4, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor with the Rev. Brian Shepley officiating. Marilyn Kroegel will be organist. Pallbearers will be Dan and Diane Stowell, Roger and Sharon Hopwood, and Joel and Kathy Goettsch. Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren, Alyssa, Brianna, Kaleb, Trent, Kaela, Corey, Cullen, Landyn, and Graycelyn. Flower bearers will be Gene DeCoster and Marianne Ocheltree. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Victor. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 3, at St. Bridget Catholic Church where the family will be present from 4:00 to 8:00 Monday evening. A scripture service will be held at 7:00 p.m. followed by a rosary at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice. The daughter of Harold and Grayce Meek Schmutte, Linda was born December 1, 1949, in Toledo, Iowa. She attended Jefferson #4 rural school in Poweshiek County and later public school in Hartwick. She was a 1968 graduate of H.L.V. High School. On May 14, 1968, Linda was married to David Claeys, in Victor and where the couple made their home. She was employed as a nurse at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Linda was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, Victor American Legion Auxiliary, and the Victor Q.R.S. She enjoyed camping, going to the beach, and flowers. She held a great love for her grandchildren and was an avid NASCAR fan. Her family and friends were all very important to her. Survivors include her husband, David of Victor; three children, Joani (Doug) King of Guernsey, Jamie (Wendy) Claeys of Victor, and Janna (Matt) Wilkins of Grinnell; one sister, Elaine Schmutte of Chelsea; and nine grandchildren Alyssa, Brianna, Kaleb, Trent, Kaela, Corey, Cullen, Landyn, and Graycelyn. She was preceded in death by her parents.
