Lila Mae Patten
Mccammant
November 22, 1938 – April 4, 2023
Born on 11-22-1938, Lila died peacefully at her home surrounded by family in Grinnell, Iowa on 04-04-2023. Lila was born in Brooklyn, Iowa to John Edwin and Della Mae Smith Patten. She was the 9th child of 11. She attended school in Brooklyn and Grinnell. Finally making Grinnell her home.
Lila was married to Keith Eugene McCammant and had 2 son, Geno and Tim.
Lila work different jobs though out her life. She worked at Midwest Manufacturing, Kellogg, IA, Miracle Playground Equipment and Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA. Lila retired from Grinnell College in 2007. After retirement she enjoyed spending time with her friends Audrey England, Betty Dillion, Pauline Pollack, Bonnie Halterman, and Shelly Hannah.
Lila "Toots or Doc Toots" put her family first before anyone else. She was the first person to be at the family members side during any time of need.
Lila had many favorite past times. Genealogy was her favorite, which was her specialty. She had a unique way of finding information about her family. She created a photo album and documentary for each one of her family siblings. She especially enjoyed visiting her nephew Larry (Butch) in Fulton, Missouri and her brother Ed in Lebanon, Missouri, where they got together to go to the cemetery of their mother's & grandmother's hometown of Willard, Missouri.
Some of Lila's other past times were gardening, decorating her home, and visiting with friends. She enjoyed her road trips, especially camping with Kerri and family. Spending the day shopping with Doris which always included a stop at the ice cream shop. She enjoyed riding through the county side with her motorcycle gang and stopping
at various historic sites along the Mississippi River which ended in Galena, IL with a large BBQ feast and bonfire by Bruce, thanks Bruce.
She is proceeded in death by her son Tim, parents John and Della Patten, sisters, Deaner, Norma, Anna Belle, Donna, Patty, Linda, and one brother Wayne. She is survived by her son Geno, of Grinnell, sister Nancy of Texas and brothers Ed of Lebanon, MO and Jim (Kathy) of Brooklyn, IA (Holiday Lake), along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to UnityPoint Hospice, her friends Audrey England, Shelly Hannah, and Kristy Chedester (for coming out of Hospice retirement), her nieces Kerri Barry, of Omaha, NE, Doris Wagner of Newton, IA, Ronda Clark Carmel, IN,
and Joni Lynn Hawkins of Davenport, IA.
Please join us, on July 15, 2023 for Lila's Visitation and Celebration of Life at Holmdahl Park (Monkey House) in Kellogg, IA.. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am -11:00 am, followed by a CELEBRATION OF LIFE from 11:00 am -12:00 pm . The Patten Family Reunion will be held following Lila's service.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom, IA.
