Larry Dwayne Herr, 57, of Newton, IA formerly of Grinnell passed away on September 13, 2024, in Newton.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm, on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
Memorials may be designated to the Larry Herr Memorial Fund mailed in c/o Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
Larry was born on September 12, 1967, in Hamburg, IA. He grew up in Northboro in southwest Iowa. He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1985. He married Robin Richardson in 1986 and they had been life partners for 40 years. He then went to Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda where he graduated with an associate's degree in business management in 1987. He worked as a manager/owner at Browns Shoe Fit Co from 1987 to 2008. He then changed directions and began working for Wells Fargo in bankruptcy and loved working there from 2008 to 2024.
Larry loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandsons. Larry enjoyed cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, watching sports, fishing, and golfing. He liked listening to classic country, some of his favorites included Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, as well as classic rock. Larry enjoyed spoiling his two dogs, Pyper and Tucker, who he affectionately referred to as his "kids", as well as his cat, Ori.
Larry will be remembered as a loving partner and proud father and "Papa". He was always willing to help someone in need, and was more than happy to help friends, family and neighbors. He could always be counted on to help the ones he loved.
Larry is survived by loving life partner of 40 years, Robin Richardson; his children Kara Peiffer, Taylor Herr, and Zachary Herr; and his grandsons, Alex and Eli Peiffer.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Ellen Archer, his grandparents, Theron and Jane Evans, and his sister, Lucinda Nicholas.
