Larry Goodrich, age 73, of Gravois Mills, Missouri and formerly of Grinnell, died on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital in St. Peters, Missouri. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 9, 2015, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. Orlan Mitchell officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be designated to the Central Iowa Honor Flight, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Larry Ray Goodrich was born the son of Lotus and Irene (Richman) Goodrich on August 3, 1942, in Grinnell, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm near Malcom, Iowa and graduated from Brooklyn High School with the class of 1960. He then attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He honorably served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was stationed on USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. Larry was united in marriage to Darlene Spencer on September 22, 1962, at the Collegiate Methodist Church in Ames, Iowa. They made their home in Ames and Larry was employed as an electronics sales representative. His job required them to relocate to Albert Lea, Minnesota for a few years and then to West Des Moines, Iowa. In 1980, they moved to Grinnell where he owned and operated several businesses and also served as general manager at the Grinnell Country Club and as President of the Grinnell Chamber of Commerce before retiring in 2008. Larry was a family man and an outdoorsman, who loved to go pheasant hunting and fishing. His favorite times were spent with his family at their lake home at Lake Ponderosa near Montezuma, Iowa or at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri and wintering down at the Southern Comfort RV Resort in Texas. He also enjoyed woodworking and spent countless hours making crafts. He will be remembered for the love of his family, his kind and caring way, his fun-loving sense of humor, and for being a hard worker. Larry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Darlene Goodrich of Gravois Mills, Missouri; his sons, Nate (Kristen) Goodrich of Ashland, Missouri and Todd (Cindy) Goodrich of St. Charles, Missouri; 8 grandchildren, Courtney, Hailey, Cameron, Kailey, Tanner, Chase, Caitlyn and Cooper Goodrich; his sister, Marla (Wayne) Ross of Brooklyn, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Carol Goodrich of Orlando, Florida; and sister-in-law, Lynda Goodrich of Johnston, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brad Goodrich; and brother, Thomas Goodrich.
