Larry Lee Asp, 74, of Gilman, died on May 10, 2021, at Grinnell Health Care Center. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 18th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Burial will be held in Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be designated to the Gilman Volunteer Fire Department. Larry was born on November 12, 1946, in Grinnell, the son of Orville Theodore and Inga Margaret Peterson Asp. He was raised in Gilman and was a 1966 graduate of Gilman High School. On January 24, 1981, he was united in marriage to Karen Shodahl, in Bloomington, Minnesota, and to this union they had one son, Michael. The couple were later divorced. Larry made his home in Gilman and for many years was employed with Van Wyke Trucking Company in Grinnell. Most recently, he had moved to Grinnell Health Care Center. Larry enjoyed motorcycles, old cars, and listening to music from the 1950's. He loved spending his time with his family and friends. Survivors include his son, Michael Asp of Eagan, Minnesota; three granddaughters, Sophia, Ashley, and Krystina Asp; and one brother, James Asp of St. Paul, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents.
