Lacene Denise Kammerer of Des Moines and formerly of Grinnell passed away from natural causes on September 2, 2024, at the age of 70. A gathering of Cene's friends to celebrate her life will be held, Friday, September 6th, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Grinnell Eagles. Smith Funeral Home is assisting with cremation.

Lacene was born in Holdrege, Nebraska, a small town south of the Platte River, on June 29, 1954. She was the third of five children born to Robert A. and Phyllis (Krabbenhoft) Kammerer.

The Kammerer family moved to Grinnell from Denison, Iowa in 1964, and Lacene graduated from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1972. She attended the University of Iowa and graduated from Drake University in Des Moines.

Cene was beyond passionate about her precious cats. They were her world, and she was a fantastic cat mom.

Cene was our family historian after our mother passed away. Cene continued to research geneaology and was thrilled when she found another distant relative or gravesite. She documented so much and the family will miss her knowledge and stories.

Lacene was also an avid reader of non-fiction and loved researching any and all subjects. She was well versed on many topics.

Lacene is survived by her brother Jeff Kammerer, her sister Jody Kammerer Jones, her nieces Nicole Jones and Stephanie Jones De Palma, and her nephew Erik Kammerer.

She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Phyllis Kammerer, and her brothers Tim and Bob Kammerer.
