Obituary

Kevin Ronfeldt, 47, of Grinnell died May 24, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 29th at the Grinnell United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Hausler, pastor of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City, officiating. Pallbearers will be David and Randy Eickelberg, Adam Olmstead, Mike Van Osdol and J.J. Wiley. Honorary bearers will be Gavin and Payton Burnett, Gavin, Jovie and Marley Eickelberg, Raegan Ranfeld, Caleb, Colin and Josie Tanner, Jacob Van Osdol, and Aryan, Blaise, Cadin and Dalton Wiley. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, northwest of Grinnell. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 .m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the family present from 5:00 until 7:00 Thursday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kevin Ronfeldt Memorial Fund. Kevin was born June 2, 1967, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Henry and Cathy McKenna Ronfeldt. He was raised in Tama and was a 1985 graduate of South Tama High School. He later moved to Grinnell and was employed at Grinnell College and Grinnell Implement Store. In 1992, he began his employment as a warehouseman at Jeld-Wen and retired in 2014, due to health issues. On April 28, 1995, he was united in marriage to Sonya Marie Eickelberg, in Brooklyn, Iowa. The couple continued to make their home in Grinnell. Kevin loved his family deeply and was very proud being a dad! He always held a smile, was always happy and always held a big heart. He was quick witted and held a wonderful sense of humor. He loved socializing with family and friends and enjoyed telling a good story. He was an avid fan of the Iowa State Cyclones and NASCAR. Greg Biffle was his favorite driver. Music was a big part of his life. He played bass guitar for several bands, including, Limited Edition, Powder River Band, Lime Creek and Rooster Tooth. He also wrote music and as a songwriter many of his songs were recorded in Nashville with one of his songs going to number 14 on the music charts. He loved music! Survivors include his wife, Sonya of Grinnell; three daughters, Melinda (Adam) Olmstead of Kellogg and Payton and Kasey Ronfeldt of Grinnell; his parents, Henry and Cathy Ronfeldt of Grinnell; one grandson, A.J. Olmstead of Kellogg; and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Van Osdol.
