Obituary

Kent C. Dutton, 76, of Grinnell, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Station Clubhouse, 729 Pearl Street in Grinnell. Memorials may be directed to the Station Clubhouse and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Kent was born on January 24, 1937, to Charles and Edith Dutton, in Wyoming. He attained his GED and went to college and became a substance abuse counselor for troubled youth. He also worked in the engineering department at a casino in Las Vegas. On July 25, 1967, he married Maria E. Jarvis in Los Angeles, California. The couple lived in Oregon, New Mexico, Wyoming, Washington and Colorado before making their home in Grinnell in 1998. Kent enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was proud of his adoption by the Tribal Council to the Arapaho Native American Tribe, in Wyoming, where he worked as a counselor. He always had a positive attitude and was known to be a jokester. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Helen Marcum of Grinnell; niece, Theresa Berry of Grinnell; brother-in-law, Tony DeLucca of Maryland; his dog, Cookie; several other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Kent was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Maria, on December 14, 2012.
