Obituary

Kenny King, 76, of Grinnell, died at his home on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A military honors service will be held at 2:30 pm at the Smith Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery northeast of Grinnell.

Memorials may be designated to the Izaak Walton League and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with Kenny's family online at www.smithfh.com.

Kenneth Eugene King was born the son of Raymond and Mildred (Gauley) King on July 20, 1948 in Grinnell, IA. He was raised on the family farm near Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1966. Following his education, he began working at Maytag in Newton.

Kenny honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany and Austria. He returned home, and continued his employment at Maytag in Newton for 25 years. He was a professional hunting guide for many years and was nationally recognized. Kenny was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grinnell, the Izaak Walton League, NRA, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, the Elks Lodge, and the Eagles.

Kenny is survived by a son, Kenneth King of Chicago, IL; daughters, Natasha King of Des Moines, IA and Kelly King of Anchorage, AK; grandchildren, Scott and Taylor Burkett, and Katie and Jessica Morrow; great-grandchildren, Shelby and Iris Carper; and siblings, James King of Lapine, OR, Keith (Karen) King of Portland, OR, and Connie (Jerry) Newman of Flower Mound, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents.
