Kenneth W. Hines, 73, of Grinnell, Iowa died on June 24, 2021, in his home in Grinnell.
A public visitation will be held July 2, 2021 from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A celebration of life service will be held July 3, 2021 at 11 am to 4 pm at the Eagles, 616 4th Ave, Grinnell, IA 50112. A private family graveside service and burial will be held at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa at a later date.
Kenneth was born on June 8, 1948, in Osage, Iowa the son of Larry and Jennie Hines. He was raised in Grinnell, graduating from Grinnell High School in 1967.
Kenneth enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1968, and served in the Vietnam War. He was awarded multiple medals and accommodations during his service including; a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, 1 Overseas service bar, an Army Commendation Medal for acts of heroism or meritorious service, and a M-14 Marksmanship Medal.
After Kenneth's honorable service to our country, he worked as a truck driver for 32 years.
Kenneth enjoyed attending motorcycle rallies, including the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in which he attended almost every year. He also enjoyed decorating his motorcycle with a Vietnam theme and taking it to motorcycle shows. Kenneth collected $1 bills that were printed during the birth years of his loved ones.
Kenneth is survived by his daughters, Angela Hines of Grinnell, Melissa (Richard Roop) Hines of Grinnell, Trisha Oftedahl of Ottumwa, Iowa, his step son Walter "Scott" Manley of Grinnell, his brother Roger (Robyn Phillips) Hines of Grinnell, sister Kathy (Cliff) Meyer of Vancouver, and his 22 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Larry and Jennie Hines, the mother of his children Susan St. John and his beloved dog, Sugar.
