Kenneth F. Elliott, 90, of Grinnell, died March 14, 2011, at his home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Jann Braaksma, pastor of the Westfield Community Church, officiating. Music will be provided by Dennis Elliott. Pallbearers will be Robbie Douglas, Chuck, Dwaine, Gary, Ralph, and Richard Elliott, Roger Innis and Hollis Sisco. Honorary bearers will be Corwin 'Corky' Berry, Don Huff, Dennis Elliott, Jerry Wahl and Paul Weber. Burial will be at the Rock Creek Cemetery, west of Grinnell. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Westfield Community Church. Kenneth was born November 11, 1920, in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County, Iowa, the son of Homer Ray and Ethel Mae Nutt Elliott. He was raised on the family farm and attended rural school near his home. He later attended Grinnell High School. Following his education he began farming near Rock Creek Lake and retired in 1984. In addition to farming he worked as an auto mechanic, well driller and as a tire repairman. On December 24, 2009, he was united in marriage to Joyce Laverne Abarr, in Newton, and the couple made their home in Grinnell. Kenneth held a life-long passion for horses and owned several horses over the years. He really enjoyed training horses. His other passion was music and teaching others to play guitar. His band, Rock Creek Country, enjoyed playing music at nursing homes and at Rock Creek Lake. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the children. He attended church, including Westfield Community Church, every Sunday and enjoyed Sunday dinner with his family. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Abarr of Grinnell; four step-children, Diane Grandstaff of Grinnell, Daniel (Janice) Grandstaff of Mason City, Randy (Setsuko) of Grinnell and Megan (Bob) Mart of Grinnell; two brothers, Paul Elliott of Grinnell and Delbert (Marilyn) Elliott of Winter Springs, Florida; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond and Hollis Elliott; two sisters, Marge Elliott and Dorothy Sisco; a sister-in-law, Edna Elliott; and one grandson, Jeff Sampson.
