Obituary

Keith Allen Smith, Jr, 56, of Malcom, passed away September 12, 2021, at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A visitation gathering will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 16th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. The visitation will be live-streamed on the Smith Funeral Home Facebook page. A private family committal service, including some close friends, will be held at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom following the visitation at the funeral home. Pastor Wayne Sneller will be officiating. Memorials may be designated to the family of Keith Allen Smith, Jr. Memorial Fund, and may be mailed c/o Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Allen was born on October 7, 1964, in Grinnell, the son of Keith Allen and Sherilee Rae McDonald Smith. He was raised in Malcom and was a 1983 graduate of BGM High School. While in high school, he was employed at Jerry's By-lo Food Store in Grinnell. In May of 1989, he was united in marriage to Danielle Nichol White, and to this union they had four children, Beau, Bailey, Brandon, and Brady. The couple later parted ways. For many years, Allen was employed in various construction companies, including Septagon Construction Company, and with Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg and Jeld-Wen Windows and Doors in Grinnell. Allen enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, including his trips to Canada, and trapping. He loved the Kansas City Chiefs and enjoyed watching the games with his sons; he also enjoyed NASCAR and boxing. Allen is survived by his four children, Beau (Jarrica Madoll) Smith of Newton, Bailey (Jason) Huyser of Sully, Brandon (Oriana Ross) Smith of Cedar Rapids, and Brady Smith of Newton; and one sister, Kurstin (Ron) Clark of Malcom. He was preceded in death by his parents.
