Keith R. Paulson, age 89 of Grinnell, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 2, 2019. Friends are invited to visit with family on Saturday, June 8th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Friends Church in Grinnell. At 11:30 a celebration of his life will be held with Pastor Anthony Nieuwsma officiating; a light lunch will follow. A private family interment will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell at a later date. Memorials may be designated to the Friends Church or Grinnell Regional Hospice and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Keith R. Paulson was born the son of Martin Hans Paulson and Margaret "Mae" (Elmore) Paulson on October 4, 1929 in rural Jasper County near Grinnell. At age 4, the family moved to the present farm where Keith resided the remainder of his life. He graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1948. From 1951 to 1953 he served in the United States Army stationed in Korea and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. Keith was united in marriage with Shirley Lowry at the First Friends Church in Searsboro, Iowa on December 2, 1954. The couple made their home on the family farm. To this union, four children were born: Nesha, Craig, Mark and Karma. Keith was a farmer his entire life until a few years ago when his health declined. Keith's family, faith and love of farming were his life. He dearly loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His enjoyments included being with family, country music, roller skating, playing his harmonica and going for motorcycle rides. He was well known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He was a little on the ornery side, but was always kind and caring. Keith is survived by his wife of 64 and a half years, Shirley Paulson; sister, Phyllis Saunders of Grinnell; sons, Craig (Kim Staples) Paulson and Mark (Brenda) Paulson; daughter, Karma (Kelly) Werner of Grinnell; 12 grandchildren Camille (Joel) Tryon, Carrie (Mike) Bohn of Cedar Rapids, Laura (Joe) Patten, of Grinnell, Juelles Brenner and Jamie Brenner of Ames, Leah (Mitch Tomlonovich) Paulson of Colfax, Randy Paulson of Sheldon, Renae (Clinton) Follette, Brian (Jordan) Paulson of Grinnell, Kolton Werner of Nevada, Kayte Werner and Kevin Werner, of Grinnell; and 12 great grandchildren, Jessa Tryon, Annabelle Bohn, Brianna Bohn, Blake Bohn and Claira Bohn of Cedar Rapids, Lily Patten and Lana Patten of Grinnell, Logan Dimit and Carter Tomlonovic of Colfax, Bryce Follette, Cory Paulson and Lyla Paulson of Grinnell. Keith was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Nesha Meyer in 2006 and siblings, Howard Paulson, Ruth Taylor, Doris Sleeuwenhoek, Merle Paulson, Genevieve Bailey and Ross Paulson (age 2).
