Keith W. Davis, 95, of Grinnell, died on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center with his family by his side.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor Joel Nielsen officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Keith's family will receive friends at the visitation held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the Smith Funeral Home.
Memorials may be designated to the Windsor Manor Activity Dept. or PALS (Poweshiek Animal League Shelter) mailed in c/o Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
Keith Wilson Davis was born on October 25, 1928, in Unionville, Missouri to Paul and Marie (Wilson) Davis.
Keith enlisted in the Army in 1952 and served until 1954 as a paratrooper. Following his active service, Keith enlisted in the Iowa Army Reserve and later as volunteer firefighter in Grinnell.
Keith spent his working career as a mechanic and truck driver. Later in life he earned a certificate to work on small engines and ran a shop out of his garage with his brother-in-law Lyle Routier. He was also a skilled carpenter.
He was married to Dorothy Jean Ladely on July 29, 1966, in Rock Island, Illinois. The couple lived in Grinnell, later Livonia, Missouri, and then returned to Grinnell. The couple had three daughters, his, her's and theirs.
Keith will be remembered for being kind, generous, a hard worker, and always putting his family first. He loved family get-togethers and especially loved entertaining the kids. He enjoyed camping, board games, playing slow pitch, and dancing. He was an avid Hawkeye fan.
Keith is survived by his daughters, Sherry Beam of Des Moines, IA, Deb (Tim) Bowers of Wells, Minnesota, and Kelli Davis (Jim Chedester) of Grinnell; grandchildren, Lonnie, Danielle, Allison, Aaron, Levi and Baleigh; 12 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marie, his wife, Dorothy, his son, Robert Keith, and his siblings, Howard Davis, Louise Hudson, Elaine Probasco, Mary Ruth Routier and Ilene Connely.
He holds a very special place in many people's hearts.
