Kay Marie Hardeman, 87, of Grinnell, IA passed away on December 11, 2024, under hospice care in her home.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, IA.

A private family burial will immediately follow the visitation.

Memorials may be designated to PALS (Poweshiek Animal League Shelter) mailed in c/o Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.

Kay was born on January 31, 1937, in New Sharon, IA to Wilmer Howard and Ruth Caroline (Ankeney) Quillin.

Kay grew up in New Sharon alongside her siblings Barbara, Charles and David.

On February 20, 1955, Kay was united in marriage to Marion Hardeman in New Sharon. To this union the couple had three children, Steve, Michelle and Jay.

Kay was employed at Hy-Vee for 22 years and retired in 1992.

Kay enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, and cooking. She loved helping and spending time with her grandchildren.

Kay is survived by her children; Steve Hardeman of Grinnell, IA, Michelle Eckerman of Grinnell, IA, and Jay (Kim) Hardeman of Cedar Rapids, IA; her grandchildren, Kelsey (Ryan) Brandt, Katie (A.J. Kriegel) Hardeman, Matt Hamor, Andrew (Cimone) Hamor, Kayla (Arnell) Powell, Sara (Travis) Barr, Tanner Eckerman, and Jonathan Eckerman; and her great-grandchildren, Beckett, Hadley, Cohen, Maren, Niko, Kyro, Liam and Ruthie.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Marion, her parents, her infant sister, Carolyn, brother, Charles Quillin, and a granddaughter, Tonya Hamor.
