Kathryn Anne Krussel, 69, of Holiday Lake, near Brooklyn, died on November 20, 2020, at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Kathy (Kit) was born on December 16, 1950, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Donald Homer and Anne Elizabeth (Dutton) Wright. She was raised in Fort Dodge and was a 1969 graduate of St. Edmond Catholic High School. She furthered her education at Creighton University in Omaha, receiving her RN and later a BSN degree.
On October 15, 1989, she was united in marriage to Thomas (Tom) Krussel, on The Riverboat near Bellevue, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Omaha for many years where she was the NICU Supervisor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, then with Children's Hospital Feeding and Growth, Omaha, and later at Boys Town Pediatric Clinic.
Kathy and Tom retired to Holiday Lake, Iowa, in 2015, and while there she volunteered at Brooklyn Estates Nursing Home and with the Humane Society in Tama. She attended St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama.
Kathy was very compassionate and a loving nurse who enjoyed taking care of children and babies. She treasured attending family reunions, the traditional Sunday family dinners, the Nebraska football "Big Red" Huskers, and family "31" card games. She loved animals and held a special love for her Basset Hound, Nala. Being Irish, her two trips to Ireland were very memorable.
She is survived by her husband, Tom of Holiday Lake; her step-daughter, Mollie (Rick) Cornell of Omaha; two grandchildren, Mackenzie and Delanie Graham of Omaha; two siblings, Paul Wright of Nashville and Vickie (Jay) Hoskey of Holiday Lake; and many nieces and nephews, plus great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
In consideration of the pandemic, a future memorial service and Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials may be designated to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
