Katheryn was born on August 24, 1927, at home, in Dimondale, MI, to George and Ladell (Carpenter) Bott.
She graduated from Dimondale high school in 1945, then entered a registered nurses program at St. Lawrence hospital in Lansing, MI. She graduated from training on June 10, 1948. On June 12, 1948, she was married to Robert R. Hoisington Jr. at First Presbyterian Church in Dimondale. They lived in Dimondale until 1963, when they moved to Grinnell.
Most of Katheryn's nursing career was in Doctor's offices. Katheryn worked as a nurse for Dr. Lowry at the Dimondale Family Clinic while her children were young. When Katheryn and Bob lived in Grinnell in the 60s (When Bob was transferred for his job), she worked for Dr. John DeMeulenaere, and for the Grinnell College infirmary. The couple moved to Sturgis, MI in 1969. There she worked with Dr. Brenner and in a four-doctor office with Doctors Lepard, Brothers, Lewis and Phillips. Katheryn retired when the couple moved back to Grinnell in 1991, when Bob retired from Goodyear.
Volunteering was a big part of Katheryn's life. In Michigan, when she had small children and again in the 70s and 80s, she worked with the American Red Cross blood drive program. Since 1991, Katheryn and Bob became involved in volunteering at the Second Mile and as board members and with the Christmas Share Program which helps the needy in Poweshiek County. She thought all of their programs were special.
Katheryn was a woman of faith, and she loved to sing. Katheryn's family will remember her for being the glue that held their family together.
Bob died on April 8, 2014. She had three children: Richard (Susan) Hoisington; Susan (Kirk) Keenan; and Sylvia (Greg Novak) Snyder.
