Jozellann May Ebert, 37, of Grinnell, passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Smith Funeral Home is assisting with cremation services.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Joz was born on November 16, 1987, in Des Moines, Iowa. She was raised in Grinnell and graduated with the Grinnell High School Class of 2006. She continued her education at Iowa Valley Community College, where she earned degrees in Early Childhood Development and Small Business Management. Joz worked as a store clerk for Kum & Go.

She had a deep love for movies and music. She was a devoted fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas. Joz could often be found at concerts, where she made a point to stay afterward to meet the bands. Her passion for music was only matched by her love for her family—especially her niece and nephews—and her beloved cats, Poof and Honey.

Joz is survived by her parents, Jeffrey D. Ebert and Justena Rinehart; her brothers, Justen (Jen) Rice, Jeff "Staypuft" Ebert, and David Ebert; her niece and nephews, Seth Williams, Akasha and Aries Rice, and Kwintyn Ebert; her grandparents, Larry Morton, and Marlou Story; her best friend, Sarah Gilbert; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Carol and Richard Ebert, Orval Rice, and Retha Morton; her niece, Taylor Rice; and her best friend, Chris Wonders.
