Joyce Constance Shook, 83, of Grinnell IA passed away Monday July 13, 2026, at Grinnell hospital.

Joyce was born October 15, 1942, in Grinnell IA. Joyce was the daughter of Donna Howard. She graduated from Grinnell High School. Joyce worked at JC Penney, True Value and several grocery stores in Grinnell. On April 16, 1960, Joyce married Lon Shook in Unionville, Mo. Joyce and Lon were blessed with 3 children, Larry Dean, Ronnie Alan, and Susan Diane.

Joyce had a wonderful sense of humor and caring personality. She found joy in being a housewife and mother. She had many friends throughout her lifetime. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed her favorite machine at Meskwaki and didn't play any others. Joyce was very competitive and wouldn't let you win playing Chinese checkers. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Joyce is survived by her sister, Karla Howard; sisters in law Caroline Shook and Shirley Shook; brothers in law Gary Shook and Jeff Shook; 3 grandchildren, Crystal, Kali and Kendall; great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her mother, her children and her husband of 65 years.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, IA. A visitation will be held half an hour before the service at 1:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at Hazelwood cemetery following the service.
