Joyce Ann Lemke was born on August 28, 1946, to Earl and Mary Ellen Lemke. She grew up in the Grinnell area and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1964. She went to college in Ohio and taught school in the Canton, Ohio area. She worked with children in that area and fostered some of them. She adopted three children from that area, too. After retiring, she taught area school teachers at times and wrote grants in many areas along the east coast. Joyce passed away at Mercy Hospital in Canton, on November 15, 2019. She was preceded in death by her father and brother. She is survived by her mother, her sisters in Grinnell, Donna Ulrey and Jane Lemke, her sister, Judy Sayre in eastern Iowa; her two nieces in Grinnell; her three adopted children, Lisa, Stephanie,and Aaron from Texas and Ohio; and six grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, June 29th at the Grinnell Christian Church. A reception will follow the service in the Family Life Center of the church.
