Joyce L. Reams, 74, of Grinnell passed away on August 29, 2020, at her home.
A memorial service has been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 5th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson officiating. The Reams family will be present one hour prior to the service to greet people. A private family burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Memorial contributions may be designated to Poweshiek Animal League (PALS).
Joyce was born on April 28,1946, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Ray and Doris Reese Stout. She was raised on the family farm near Montezuma and was a 1964 graduate of Montezuma High School. She attended two semesters at Drake University for journalism and later earned a Stenographic Diploma at AIB in Des Moines in 1966. In 1989, she was awarded the rating of a Certified Professional Secretary. She typed over 100 words per minute and loved to edit documents.
On June 3, 1966, she was united in marriage to Larry Reams, in Montezuma and to this union they had two children. The couple were later divorced.
Joyce was employed at Grinnell Mutual Re-Insurance Company for 15 years and later employed as a branch secretary at Heartland AEA #11 in Newton. She retired in 2012.
Joyce held a great love for her family and thoroughly enjoyed sharing her time with her grandchildren. She loved her cats, drawing, playing her piano, country music, classic rock-n-roll (50's & 60's), and dancing. She was an avid reader, especially romance and mystery titles and enjoyed watching several programs on TV and western movies. She held a keen sense of humor. Joyce loved visiting with family and friends and was a great listener. She welcomed people in when they stopped by and in later years would lend an ear by phone. She also loved People magazine and keeping up to date on all the celebrities.
She is survived by her two children, Melissa (Kurt Falck) Reams of Des Moines and Mark Reams of Grinnell; and five grandchildren, Rob Sheppard of Chicago, and Shelby, Jacob, Preston, and Korbin Reams, all of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her mother on July 23, 1985 and her father on July 5, 2006.
