Joyce Humphrey, age 95 of Grinnell and formerly of Newburg, died on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. A private family graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman with Rev. Steve Savage officiating. Memorials may be designated to the St. Francis Manor Foundation to purchase personal protective equipment for their nurses and staff members. Joyce Evelyn Weaver was born the daughter of Harold and Alma Agnes (Anderson) Weaver on December 13, 1924 near Newburg, Iowa. She was raised on the family farm near Newburg and graduated from Newburg High School with the class of 1942. On December 3, 1943, Joyce was united in marriage to Donald Porter Humphrey at the Newton Parsonage in Newton, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Edward, Richard, Donna, and Marsha. The couple farmed in Jasper County for many years and retired to Grinnell in 2007. Joyce and Donald were longtime members of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church. Joyce dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a hard worker who spent countless hours helping on the farm and making meals for those working the in the fields. Joyce and Donald enjoyed traveling together and their favorite destinations were Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, and Branson, Missouri. They also took family fishing trips to Minnesota, Wisconsin and Nebraska. Her enjoyments were tending to her large garden, baking, square dancing, coffee time, quilting, and making crafts. She will be remembered for her kind, gentle demeanor, for baking the best cinnamon rolls and birthday pies, for her strong faith, and for the love of her family. Joyce is survived by three children, Richard (Connie) Humphrey of Gilman, Donna (Mort) Fleischer of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Marsha (Mark) Patterson of Gilman; six grandchildren, Mark and Brian Humphrey, Justine Budhram, Bradley Humphrey, and Jacob and Erin Patterson; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Humphrey; son, Edward Humphrey; granddaughter, Kasey Ann Patterson; and four siblings, Doris Logsdon, Vernon "Dewey" Weaver, Derald Weaver, and Darlene Clark.
