Joyce Cooling, 81, of Victor, died on Friday, January 22, 2016, at the University Hospitals in Iowa City. A Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Victor with Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Organist will be Fred Stiefel. Casket Bearers will be Shawn Welsh, Heath Welsh, Chris Willett, Wes Cooling, Phillip Cooling, Jade Cooling, Amber Cooling, Shaylee Cooling, Kylie Cooling, Ryland Cooling and Kandi Willett. Honorary Bearers will be Laverne and Nancy Weisskopf, Bernna Deane Hawkins, Dock Blankenship and Ruth DeMeulenaere. Interment will be in the Genoa Bluff Cemetery near Victor. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor beginning 2:00 p.m. on Monday and the family will be present from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Memorials may be directed to the Joyce Cooling Memorial Fund and sent in care to the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 485, Victor, Iowa 52347. Joyce was born on September 17, 1934, to Edwin and Selma Conrad Kuhnle in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy, Iowa. She grew up in Ladora and graduated from Ladora High school with the class of 1953. On July 28, 1956, she was united in marriage to Darol E. Cooling at St. John's Lutheran Church in Marengo. The couple made their home in Ladora and to this union three children were born. Joyce moved to Victor in 1995 following the death of her husband. Joyce was a secretary for the HLV School System for several years before retiring in 1987. Joyce was an active member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, crocheting and gardening. She loved her family and could always be found attending her grandchildren's and great grandchild's sporting events. She will be missed by all her knew her. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Diane Cooling of Victor, Mark (Angie) Cooling of Walford, Iowa, Rod (Kristy) Cooling of Victor; one brother, Wayne (Karen) Kuhnle of Ladora; one sister, Donna (Eldon) Doehrmann of Williamsburg; eleven grandchildren, Shawn (Kellie Kraus) Welsh, Kandi (Chris) Willett, Heath Welsh, Wes (Kari) Cooling, Les (Karen Hawkins) Cooling, Phillip (Sarah) Cooling, Kylie and Ryland Cooling, Jade, Amber and Shaylee Cooling; eleven great-grandchildren, Gracie Welsh, Preston and Derek Willett, Drew, Jackson, Ella, Connor, Camren, Landen, Brock and Logan Cooling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darol; her parents; one brother, Dwayne Kuhnle; and a great-granddaughter, Attison Welsh.
