Obituary

John E. Hasley, 68, of Malcom, died on Sunday, January 5, 2014, at his home in Malcom. Services and burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112. John was born on January 6, 1946, in Montezuma, Iowa to Lewis and Arlene Bunnell Hasley. The family lived in various communities in Poweshiek and Jasper County and he attended school in Lynnville and Newton. During the Vietnam War he served with the United States Navy. In June of 1966, he was married to Judy Ann Lester. The couple lived in Searsboro, Grinnell and Malcom and he was employed with the Donaldson Company for over 40 years. On September 7, 2013, he was married to Jane Parrigin in Malcom. John was a Past Vice-Commander of the Malcom American Legion Post and had served on the Malcom City Council. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, bicycling, restoring older cars, dancing, bowling, wintering in Texas and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Jane Parrigin-Hasley of Malcom; his childen, Sheryl Buchheit of Silverton, OR, Stacy (Craig) Stevens of Ankeny, IA and RaNae (Will Smith) Baker of Salem, OR; his step-children, Lara (Larry) Whiteside of Cook, MN, Mick (Ashley) Pletcher of Brunswick, MD and Amanda Parrigin of Grinnell, IA; 19 grandchildren; one brother, Michael Hasley of Montezuma, IA; and one sister, Sharon Kay (Jerry) Winchell of Mission, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Richard Hasley; and one sister, Charlotte Proctor.
