John L. Doud, 92, of Marengo, IA (formerly Victor, IA) passed away November 23, 2024 at Compass Memorial Hospital in Marengo.
A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Victor. Burial will follow the service at Victor Calvary Cemetery. Following the burial a luncheon will be held in the parish hall at St. Bridget's Catholic Church.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the parish hall at St. Bridget's Catholic Church.
Memorials may be designated to the Victor American Legion Post #54, mailed in c/o Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 485, Victor, IA 52347.
John was born on May 2, 1932, to Lawrence and Velma (Border) Doud in Victor, IA. He grew up in the Victor area and graduated from St. Bridget Catholic High School in 1950.
Following high school, John enlisted in the US Army. Upon his honorable discharge he worked many years as a mechanic. He owned Doud's Repair until his retirement. He was an active member of the Victor American Legion Post #54 and St. Bridget's Catholic Church.
On January 12, 1957, John was united in marriage to Darla Albert at St. Bridget's Catholic Church. To this union the couple had five children, Dennis, Diane, Tim, Conna, and David.
John loved to golf. He enjoyed bowling and gardening. He was active volunteering at the VA Medical Center for many years.
John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Darla; his children, Dennis Doud of Denver, CO, Diane (Ken) Bendorf of Belle Plaine, IA, Tim Doud of Cody, WY, Conna (Rick) Bral of Marengo, IA and David Doud of Denver, CO; his grandchildren, Rusty (Cara) Doud, Dan (Melissa) Bendorf, Jeremy Bendorf, Toby (Kristen) Bral, Nick (Tammy) Bral, and Cale (Samantha) Bral; great-grandchildren, Owen Bral, Derek Bral, Christian LaGrange, Kendra Bral, Barrett Bral, Lucas Bral, Charli Bral, Tamara Bendorf, and Neveah Bendorf; great-great-grandchildren, Brystol Bendorf, and Ira Hagg; and his siblings, Richard Doud and Pauline Bunting, along with many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Velma; and his sisters, Della Brooks, Mary McBride, and Pat Montgomery.
