John E. Ditzler, 76, of Brooklyn, died April 10, 2016, at Brooklyn Community Estates. No services are planned. Memorial contributions may be directed to the John E. Ditzler Memorial Fund. John was born July 27, 1939, in Grinnell the son of John H. and Mabel Bloom Ditzler. He was raised in Grinnell and was a 1957 graduate of Grinnell High School. On December 19, 1959, he was united in marriage with Marilyn Matney. To this union they had three children, David, Kimberly and Robert. The couple were later divorced and he later married Jo Fetzer. They had one child together, Colman. John lived in the Grinnell area and was employed with Grinnell College, Miracle Recreation and Donaldson Company. He was also employed with Victor Manufacturing and later retired to Holiday Lake near Brooklyn. He enjoyed living at the lake, being in the outdoors and fishing. Survivors include four children, David Ditzler of Grinnell, Kimberly Ditzler of Nampa, Idaho, Robert Ditzler of Little Rock, Arkansas and Colman Ditzler of Brooklyn; one brother, Robert Ditzler of Snohomish, Washington; three sisters, Mary Duryee of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Marjorie Hillman of Grinnell and Charlotte Smith of Des Moines, Washington; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
