Joan K. Moyer, 68, of Grinnell, died on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 7, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Grinnell with Rev. Dr. Dondrea Walker, pastor of the church, officiating. Organist will be Denise Baustian. Casket Bearers will be Kayla Moyer, Jessica Moyer, Danny McCulley, Kraig Schmidt, Doug Moyer and Ron Moyer. Interment will be at the Rock Creek Cemetery near Grinnell. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell beginning 12 noon on Sunday and the family will be present at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Joan was born on September 27, 1945, in Wesley, Iowa to Donald and Hattie Mae White Kinnaird. She attended school in Searsboro and later graduated with the Class of 1964 from Grinnell High School. On July 3, 1964, she was married to Roger Moyer at the First Baptist Church in Grinnell. The couple lived in Grinnell and she was a homemaker and mother of two sons, Tom and Rick. She also worked at the former General Telephone Company in Grinnell and for Moyer's Kerr-McGee Service Station. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a production worker at Montezuma Manufacturing Company. Joan was a member of the First Baptist Church and she enjoyed reading, camping and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones. Joan was proud of her two sons and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great granddaughter. Survivors include her husband, Roger Moyer of Grinnell; two sons, Tom Moyer of Grinnell and Rick (Monica) Moyer of Grinnell; five grandchildren, Matthew, Kayla, Spencer, Jessica and Haley Moyer; one great granddaughter, Lydia Versendaal; five brothers, Wayne (Mertie) Kinnaird of Dubuque, IL, Wendell (Jean) Kinnaird of Grinnell, Earl (Pam) Kinnaird of Grinnell, Bill (Shirley) Kinnaird of Grimes and Jerry (Pat) Kinnaird of Salina, Kansas; and her twin sister, Judy (Roger) McCulley of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Donna Grovenburg.
