Obituary

Joan Golob, 68, of Grinnell and formerly of Montezuma, died peacefully Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at her home of cancer surrounded by her family. A celebration of life service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice. The daughter of Cecil and Hazel Wood Snook, she was born September 29, 1937, in Grinnell. She was raised and educated in Montezuma and later received her teaching certificate. She taught for several years in the Urbana, Iowa school district and later returned to Montezuma where she was employed as a secretary for a local law firm. On June 30, 1973, she was married to George Golob, Sr. in Des Moines. The couple made their home there for 22 years and she was a homemaker. After her husband's death in 1995, she moved to Grinnell. Joan enjoyed crafts and sewing, collecting rabbits and country theme motifs. She especially enjoyed attending craft shows with her cousin, Lucille. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mary Brandt and her husband, Joe of Marion; one nephew, Tony Snook and his wife, Christine of Marengo; one neice, Heather Poffenberger and her husband, Doug of State Center; and six great neices and nephews, Levi, Taylor and Cole Snook of Marengo, Ashton and Acelyn Damisch and Emma Poffenberger of State Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Lowell and Richard Snook; and one nephew, Steve Snook.
