Jim Vogel, 85, of Davenport and formerly of Malcom, died on July 2, 2026, at The Vistas of Bettendorf.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A luncheon will follow the service in the Heritage Room at Smith Funeral Home. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Brooklyn.

James Martin Vogel was born to Frank and Jeanette (Holoubeck) Vogel on November 29, 1940, in Grinnell, Iowa. He was raised in Malcom and graduated from Brooklyn High School with the Class of 1960. Jim continued his education at St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa, where he earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education. He later received a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Iowa.

Jim began his career with the Davenport Community School District, where he taught for more than 35 years before retiring. After leaving the family farm, he made his home in Davenport for the remainder of his life.

Jim was an active member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Davenport. He had a special love for his cocker spaniels and enjoyed raising and caring for them. Jim also loved coaching youth baseball and spent many years mentoring young people in the community. He had a passion for collecting baseball trading cards and cherished spending summers at his cabin in Minnesota, where he enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and time outdoors.

Jim survived by his son, Tom (Becky) Vogel of Davenport, Iowa; his grandsons Collin Franzen and Tom Vogel of Davenport; his brother, Larry (Rita) Vogel of Malcom; his nephews, Jeff (Dianne) Vogel of Tiffin, Iowa, and Mike (Lori) Vogel of Malcom; his niece, Laurie (Greg) Jansen of Malcom; six great nephews and nieces; three great-great nephews and nieces; and his cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
