Obituary

Jerry Martin Bogue, 78, of Grinnell died on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A graveside service at Hazelwood Cemetery will be scheduled in the Spring of 2022. Jerry was born on April 20, 1943, one of seven children of Dee Sanford and Mabel Irene Bogue in Newton, IA. He received his early education at a country schoolhouse before attending Kellogg Highschool. Jerry met the love of his life, Jeri Wang, and the couple were married on October 20, 1994, at their home in Malcom. They raised their family in Malcom while Jerry was a dedicated employee of 31 years at Maytag as a machine operator. Jerry enjoyed working with his hands, he built cabinets and bird houses among many other projects his family and friends requested. His garage doubled as his wood shop and storage for his collection of riding lawn mowers. He loved to mow and maintain his yard; his kids would say the yard could be mowed in few short passes with a push mower, but Jerry would rather take his time seated atop his John Deere. He could be seen riding that John Deere up and down the neighborhood streets on his way to mow his friends' lawns. Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend. He was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his newest great-grandchild, Aubree Rose Hamilton, later this January. Jerry is survived by his wife, Jeri; children, Bradley (Dawn) Hamilton, Cory (Alexis) Bogue, Crystal (Chuck) Carman, Tina (Michael) Jay, Angie (Todd) VanWyk; grandchildren, Austin (Angie) Hamilton, Breanna Hamilton, Sarah (Josh) Oehrlein, Jason (Marie) Jay, Angie Gaude, Cory (Kari) Carson, Kaleb Jay, Shaylea (Ryan) Obeidzinski, Amanda Jay, Ali Colton) Mogensen, Cait (Mark) Torgerson, and Kourtney (Justin Morris) Van Wyk; great-grandchildren, Jordan & Tori Oehrlein, Trent, Jenna & Jaden Jay, Julia & Jeremy Gaude, Lexi & Hallie Obeidzinski, Peyton & Kaynen Mogensen, Declan Torgensen, and Ava & Maci Morris; and one sister, Irene McCumber. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Dee "Sunny", Jim, Deloris, Betty, and Judy Bogue.
