Obituary

Mrs. Speth was born on June 3, 1897, in Grinnell, Iowa, and lived in three centuries. She was the daughter of Hudson and Jeanette Bowie Lewis and was raised in Grinnell and attended Grinnell schools. She also attended the Capitol City Commercial College. On June 17, 1920, she was married to Carl Joe Speth in Des Moines. The couple lived in Grinnell and she worked at the Morrison-Shults Glove Company. Following the death of her husband in 1963, she worked in the food service of the Grinnell School System and later in the Grinnell College Book Store. In 1976, she moved to Muscatine to be near her daughter. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Grinnell. Survivors include one daughter, Cleone Snider of Muscatine; three grandchildren, Katherine Othmer of Muscatine, Nancy Overstreet of Kalona, and Vincent Snider of London, England; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four sisters, Margaret Belnap, Gertrude Whitaker, Mabel Breiting and Lillian Eilers; and her brother, George Lewis. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Grinnell and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
