Jennie Catherine Canfield passed away peacefully in St. Francis Manor on April 8th in the quiet of the night at the age of 105 ½ years. Her daughter was at her side.

Jennie was born on August 18, 1919, to Dean and Myrtle (Spiers) Orr at her grandma's house in Oberlin, Kansas. Growing up Jennie was active in 4-H club, and when she was 16, she won a trip to the Kansas StateFair, at Hutchinson in Style Show wearing her Grandma Orr's wedding dress. She graduated high school in 1938 and then attended two years of college studying Home Economics. Jennie met her future husband, Ralph, during her second year of college.

On July 26, 1940, Jennie was united in marriage to Ralph Canfield in Clay Center, KS. For their honeymoon the couple went to the New York World's fair in July of 1940. The couple resided in Knox, IN, Southbend, IN, Oberlin, KS, Los Angeles, CA, Santa Ana, CA. Following Ralph's passing in 1988, Jennie moved to Placentia, CA. In 1989, Jennie and her daughter Rebecca bought a new car and took a 6-week trip across the US and back. In 1990 she went to England, Scotland and Wales for 3 weeks.

In 2003, Jennie moved to Grinnell, IA, with her daughter where they have lived happily ever since.

Jennie enjoyed sewing and was a seamstress for some time. She had a lot of very good friends in her lifetime and enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with them, as well with her family.

Jennie is survived by her children, Thomas (Maria) Canfield, Ross (Mona) Pinyan, and Rebecca Canfield; 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

She is preceded by her parents, her husband, Ralph, her oldest sons, Dan and Jim, and her siblings, Effie Gish, Myra Canfield, Gary Orr and Roger Orr.

Memorials may be designated to P.A.L.S.

A memorial service will be held in Kansas with her family at a later date.
