Jeanette Eleanor Tisdale "Miss Tisdale", died at her residence at the Mayflower Community in Grinnell, lowa on Wednesday April 12, 2023 at 90 years of age.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, April 21, 2023 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the service in the Heritage Room at the Smith Funeral Home. A private family interment will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery near Zearing, Iowa.

Jeanette was born in Nevada, Iowa on March 4, 1933, the only child of Julius Ray and Virginia Mae (Horn) Tisdale. She attended elementary schools in Clemons, Iowa, Whitten, Iowa, Janesville, Iowa and Baxter, Iowa. She graduated from Woden (Iowa) High School in 1950. Jeanette earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Northern Iowa with a Major in Piano and a minor in English. She completed her Master of Arts Degree in Music Education at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado. She was a lifelong learner. Jeanette taught music in elementary schools at Elkader, Iowa, and Osage, Iowa. For 35 years, she served as the elementary music teacher for Davis, Fairview, Parker, Cooper, Newburg and Middle School buildings in the Grinnell School district.
Jeanette was an active member of the Baptist Church in Grinnell and directed the choirs and organized the bell ringers for many years. She was an avid traveler and her summer vacations included visiting all the continents through her many years of traveling.
Jeanette was involved in the Friends of International Students Programs at Grinnell College. She hosted 2 international Grinnell College Students in her home. The time shared with the two young women became a lifelong friendship and Jeanette was always excited to talk about the young women and the education and the experiences they brought to her life.
In 2004, Jeanette received the Volunteer Service Award from Grinnell Regional Medical Center for over 10 years of service. She was also a member of the Retired School Personnel and P.E.O. Chapter JB.
As a family, we know that Jeanette is now playing music in Heaven for many. She is survived by several cousins and was preceded in death by her parents.
