Obituary

Jean Morrison, 92, of Grinnell died on January 20, 2021 at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Due to Covid-19, the Morrison family requests a private funeral service and burial to be held on Saturday morning, January 23rd, at the Sheridan Cemetery, northeast of Grinnell. The service will be live streamed through the Facebook page of Smith Funeral Home & Crematory starting at 9:30 am. A public Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date yet to be determined. Memorial contributions may be designated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and sent in c/o Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Jean was born on October 2, 1928 in Albion in Marshall County, the daughter of Roy Terence and Ruth May Weber Molloy. She was raised in the Newburg area and was a graduate of Newburg High School. While in high school she participated in choir, band (she played the saxophone), 4-H, and played four years of basketball. On August 19, 1951, she was married to George Milton Morrison, at the United Brethren Church west of Newburg. To this union of 55 years, they had seven children. They began their married life on the Morrison family farm in Malcom Township. The family moved to their current farm in Sheridan Township, section 15, on February 14, 1969. Jean and George worked together on their farm and raising their family. She was a very proud mother and grandmother; her devotion to her family and her faith in God was very evident. Whenever she had to fill out a form asking for her occupation, she would always state MOTHER in capital letters! Jean loved her life, her family, and friends. She was active in many things, including teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at the First Friends Church in Grinnell and later the Sheridan United Methodist Church. She helped organize and was a leader of the Pioneer Girls, a charter member of the Poweshiek County Historical and Genealogy Society, a 30-year member and officer of the Ladies Farm Bureau, and a member of the Sheridan Homemakers, Welcome In Club, Let's Get Together Club, and Harmony Ladies group. Jean held a passion for china painting, she was a talented artist. She loved gardening and flowers, especially irises and roses, and socializing with family and friends. Survivors include her children, Marlene Pedigo of Westfield, Indiana, Diane DeSousa of St. Petersburg, Florida, Rosemary Ethington of Grinnell, Duane Morrison of Malcom, Keith Morrison of Davenport, and Eric Morrison of Malcom; a brother-in-law, Phillip Watt of Montezuma; 12 grandchildren, Joel and Anna Pedigo, John and Natalie DeSousa, Michelle Brennan, Scott Ethington, Jennifer Kramka and Josh Burnham, William Morrison, Jessica Lovera-Matter, Bailey Hupp, and Grace Morrison; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George in 2007; a daughter, Janet Musial; her sister, Zelda May Watt; and a grandson, Nathan Pedigo.
