Jan was born on September 16, 1938, near Oskaloosa, Iowa to Eldert and Jennie Van Ringelestein Fynaardt. She was raised on the family farm and attended Lacy school.
On March 1, 1957, she was married to Leroy Blom in Oskaloosa and to this marriage was born five children. The couple operated a grain and livestock farm near Sully and she was a homemaker. She also did volunteer work for the Mahaska County Outreach store.
Janice was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Sully. She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending school events of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading and tending to her flower gardens. She honored each one of her grandchildren with an embroidered baby quilt. For the past 22 years she traveled to Oskaloosa to visit her parents, sister and volunteering at the Mahaska County Outreach giving her the nickname of 'Tuesday Girl.'
She is survived by her husband, Leroy Blom of rural Grinnell; her children, Greg Blom of rural Grinnell, Phyllis Kephart of New Sharon, Lisa (Ken) Ellenson of Amana, Warren Blom of rural Grinnell and Dee Dee (Laurel) Ely of Kellogg; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two sisters, Joyce (Harry) Jochems of Newton and Nancy Roose of Oskaloosa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son-in-law, Lane Kephart; one brother, Edward Fynaardt; and one brother-in-law, Art Roose.
