Janet I. Rasmus, 70, of Grinnell died January 6, 2015, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 9, at the Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date. There is no visitation. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Janet I. Rasmus Memorial Fund. Janet was born August 28, 1944, in Charles City, Iowa the daughter of Clifford Eugene and Ada Louise Lillibridge Rasmus. She was a graduate of St. Ansgar High School. In 1963, she was united in marriage with William Riggan. They were later divorced in 1974. Janet lived in several communities in northern Iowa, southern California and Arkansas, prior to moving to Grinnell in 1983. She was a member of the Grinnell Eagles Auxiliary. Janet loved her family and was a proud mother and grandmother. She was a collector of butterfly's and owls and enjoyed fishing, writing, photography and watching TV. She held a good sense of humor. Survivors include one son, Lonnie Rasmus and his fiancé, Amy of Virginia, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Dakota Rasmus of Belmond and Makenzii Rasmus of Olwein; three brothers, David Rasmus of Wesley Chapel, Florida, Harold Rasmus of Pennsylvania and Jerry Rasmus of Louisiana; one sister, Colleen Cooper of Hunlock Creek, Pennsylvania; and her long-time companion, Don Andrews of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by his parents.
