Obituary

Janell Luebben, 89, of Grinnell died on November 28, 2016, at the Mayflower Community Health Care Center in Grinnell. A graveside service and burial will be held 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 29, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with Rev. Kathryn Roys, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice, Mayflower Community, St. John's Lutheran Church in Grinnell, or to Grinnell College Anthropology Department, Emeritus Professors' Fund. Janell was born June 22, 1927, in West Bend, Wisconsin, to Harry and Ema Lied. On August 30, 1947, she was united in marriage to Ralph Luebben. Janell was a secretary for many years, and also participated in numerous archaeological and ethnographic field projects in the American Southwest and Mexico. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and choir. There were no survivors other than the many students that Ralph and she mentored. She was preceded in death by her husband on October 19, 2009; her parents; and her sister, Marne Starch.
