James Frederic Sage, 81, of Grinnell, IA passed away peacefully on November 19, 2021, at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. James was born on April 8, 1940, in Marshalltown to Elihue and Florence (Loennig) Sage. He was raised in the Gilman area and attended Gilman High School, graduating with the Gilman High School class of 1958. Following his education, James worked and retired from Amana Refrigeration, later he worked at Ashing Machine and Tool Co., and most recently Fareway. James was united in marriage to Kathryn Byers on June 11, 1961. To this union the couple was blessed with two daughters: Brenda and Debra and twin baby boys. James enjoyed woodworking, working on Cub Cadet lawnmowers, fishing, shooting, camping and being outdoors. He loved dining at the Frontier Café in Grinnell. He took pride in helping others, including mowing his neighbor's yard. He cherished spending time with his family and his beloved dachshunds. He also enjoyed traveling, as Kathryn and James were able to visit 46 states on their motorcycle. James was a member of the Masonic Lodge. James is survived by his wife Kathryn, two daughters; Brenda (Curtis) Fopma of Lynnville, and Debra Sage of Grinnell; 4 grandchildren; Troy Fopma of Newton, Daniel Fopma of Ames, Anna Fopma of Lynnville, and Edward James Metz of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his twin baby boys.
