Jim was born on June 6, 1938, in Cherokee, Iowa to James and Charlotte McFadden Booth. He was raised in Cherokee and graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee with the Class of 1958. On November 12, 1958, he entered the United States Air Force and served until November of 1968. On August 29, 1964, he was married to Gladys Zitterich in Estherville, Iowa. The couple lived in New Mexico, Alaska and North Dakota before moving to Newburg, Iowa in 1969. He spent over 11 years with the Newton Police Department and served in various departments. He later worked as a Security Officer for the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville and as the Chief of Security at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska. The family moved to Grinnell in 1989 and he has resided at the Mayflower Health Care Center due to poor health for the past six years. He was a member of the Grinnell Christian Church, the American Legion, the Odd Fellows Lodge and he was involved with Boy Scouts. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, oil painting, reading and following the Dallas Cowboys and their cheerleading squad. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Booth of Grinnell; three sons, Jim (Michelle) Booth of Ankeny, John (Lenna) Booth of Grinnell and Jason (Cary) Booth of Quantico, Virginia; six grandchildren, Chelsi, Grant, Clay, Tyler, Abby and Caden Booth; one brother, LeRoy (Rose) Booth of Spencer, Iowa; and one sister. Joyce (Everett) Sunkenberg of Mesa, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clifford, Jack and Elmer; and one sister, Alice Booth.
