Jack "Butch" Delk, 73, of Grinnell, died on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
A public graveside service with military honors by the United State Marine Corps will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Westfield Cemetery south of Grinnell. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at the Eagles in Grinnell.
Memorials may be designated to the Jack Delk Memorial Fund (please make checks payable to his wife, Rhonda Delk) and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with Jack's family online at www.smithfh.com.
Jack Ellsworth Delk was born the son of Jack and Zella (Haines) Delk on November 19, 1949 in Grinnell, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Grinnell. Following his education, Jack honorably served his country in the United State Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
Jack was united in marriage to Rhonda Sheets on February 14, 1977 in Grinnell. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Larry and Lisa. They lived and raised their family in Grinnell and Jack was employed with the City of Grinnell, Donaldson's, Van Wyk Freight Line, and most recently at Jeld-Wen in Grinnell.
Jack was an outdoorsman who enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He dearly loved his family and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his ornery and fun-loving sense of humor, for being a proud Marine veteran, and for being a hard-worker.
Jack is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rhonda Delk of Grinnell; his son, Larry Delk and his daughter, Jacklyn Delk of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his daughter, Lisa Delk and her two children, Kane and Aleah Delk of Grinnell; his sister, Betty Hall of Grinnell; his brother-in-law, Walter Barnes of Grinnell; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Raymond Delk, Reatha Morton, Sharon Daughtery, and Mari Barnes.
