Jack F. Chedester, 96, of Malcom, died on July 3, 2021, at his home of natural causes.
Private family services will be held at a later date.

Jack was born on October 21, 1924, in Poweshiek County, the son of Guerdon and Grace Binegar Chedester. He was raised in the Kellogg area and was a 1942 graduate of Kellogg High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the South Pacific during W.W. II.
On August 26, 1944, he was united in marriage to Patsi A. Matney, in Kellogg. A union of 76 years. The couple farmed north of Kellogg for a few years and moved to a farm north of Malcom in 1952. They later built a new home on their current farm north of Malcom. Jack retired from farming in 1986, but had continued to live on their farm.
Jack was a long-time member of American Legion Post #733 in Malcom.
Jack held a love for his life on the farm and spending his time with his family. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing on both the Iowa and Des Moines Rivers, and his fishing trips to Canada. He was considered a great cook, known for his chocolate chip cookies, and enjoyed carpentry work. He was an avid reader of western stories including books authored by Louis L'Amour.
Jack is survived by his wife, Patsi of Malcom; three children, Jerry (Cheryl) Chedester of Grinnell, Rae Ann (Doug) Lary of Des Moines, and William (Kristi) Chedester of Brooklyn; one brother, Glenn (Ann) Chedester of Grinnell; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Allen Chedester in infancy; and a brother, Max Chedester in 1984
