Obituary

Jack Lee Carmer, 61, of Marshalltown, died on March 8, 2019, at S. Luke's Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 22nd, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Memorial contributions may be designated to the Jack Lee Carmer Memorial Fund. Jack was born on November 5, 1958, in Iowa City, the son of Earl Warren and Dorothy Jean Walker Carmer. He was raised in Grinnell and received his education in the Grinnell School District. On July 9, 1979, he was united in marriage with Joyce Trease, in Tama. The couple lived in Newton for several years prior to returning to Grinnell to live. He later lived in Marshalltown and then in Missouri. He held several jobs in the area. Jack enjoyed working on cars and fishing. Survivors include his father, Earl Carmer of Marshalltown; his wife, Joyce Carmer of Marshalltown; three children, Shaun (Jessica Inman) Carmer, Sr. of Grinnell, Amanda (David Peppers) Kibbee of Marshalltown, and Charity (Raymond) Willson of Marshalltown; three brothers, Warren (Norlene) Carmer of Marshalltown, Earl Carmer of Marshalltown and Rick (Julie) Carmer of Des Moines; two sisters, Bonnie (Jim) Bunting of New Sharon and Nancy Carmer of Marshalltown; and 8 grandchildren, Abbigail Klaas, Austin Hayes, Corbin Smith, Isabelle, Ariel, and Shawn Carmer, Jr., Kanishia Clapsaddle, and Keianna Kibbee. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy in 2013; and two sisters, Brenda Carmer in 1960 and Mary Carmer in 1975.
