Ida Christine Burnson, 97, of Grinnell died Friday, October 14, 2005, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
A graveside service and burial will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with the Rev. Len Eberhart, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to Stewart Library in Grinnell.
The daughter of Iver and Serina Larson Burnson, she was born September 6, 1908, in Chester Township, north of Grinnell. She attended rural schools and was a 1926 graduate of Grinnell High School. She taught in rural schools in Washington and Grant Townships, near Grinnell, for thirteen years. She then was employed by Iowa Southern Utilities in Washington, Iowa for several years and later returned to Grinnell and was employed with I.S.U. until her retirement in 1973. She had been a resident at St. Francis Manor since 2002. She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include one niece, Patty Veldhuizen of Newton; three grand-nieces, Amy (Tony) May of Clarinda, Julie (Brandon) Pirkle of Des Moines, and Sara Veldhuizen, a student at Mount Marty College, Yankton, South Dakota; and one great grand-niece, Paige May of Clarinda. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Ruth Stout; and one brother, Elmer Burnson.
