Homer L. McDonough, 95, of Grinnell, died on Friday, September 14, 2012, at Windsor Manor in Grinnell.
There will be a private graveside service at Hazelwood Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

Homer was born on September 21, 1916, the son of Hugh Cassius and Emma Schnell McDonough in rural Jasper County, Iowa. He attended rural school in Jasper and Poweshiek Counties, before graduating from Grinnell High School in 1933.
On November 29, 1941, he married Jean Sheller at the Ivester Church in Grundy County, Iowa. Homer built their family home and they lived on that farm for over 70 years. He took great pride in his farm and loved farming. He also took great pride in being the Director of Grant #2 school and as a Grant Township Trustee. Homer was a faithful member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church for over 70 years and served as head usher and on several committees.
Homer led a simple life and loved helping others. He was a devoted son and checked on his parents day and night, when their health was declining. Homer was also a loving and caring husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle and friend.
Homer is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jean McDonough of Grinnell; his two daughters, Marvel (Jim) LaCasse of Grinnell, Wanda (Arthur "Butch") Duske of Des Moines; one son, Virgil (Donna) McDonough of Omaha, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Jonathan, Shawna, Chuck, Laura, Megan and Andrea; and ten great grandchildren, Libby, Joey, Jacob, Charlie, Calvin, Ellis, Caroline, Johnny, Zachary and Nathaniel; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ivan, Glenn and Carl McDonough.
