Holly Laverne Mikles was born on December 23, 1915, at Exline, Iowa. The family moved to Searsboro, Iowa, where he attended public school. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy. On November 14, 1936, he was married to Evelyn Maxine Tish in Unionville, Missouri. The couple lived in Kellogg, Iowa and later in areas of Nebraska, California and Colorado before moving to Mesa, Arizona in 1979. He is survived by two sons, Roger of Tucson, Arizona and Michael of Mesa, Arizona; three grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on May 3, 1999.
