Obituary

Hilda was born on February 26, 1911, in Moline, Illinois to Henry and Mary Stevens Van Otegham. She was raised on the family farm near Victor and attended rural school. On September 27, 1933, she was married to Edward B. Van De Voorde in Moline, Illinois. The couple farmed near Victor and Brooklyn. She worked in the dietary department of Grinnell General Hospital from 1971 to 1991. They moved to Belle Plaine in 1982. Hilda was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of Belle Plaine, the Altar and Rosary Soceity and she was a dedicated 4-H leader for nine years. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by one son, Eugene (Marilyn) Van De Voorde of Brooklyn; two daughters, Theresa (Paul) Thuerauf of Wilcox, AZ and Joyce Connolly of Littleton, Colorado; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and four sisters, Madalene Wauters and Marie DeMeyer, both of Belle Plaine, Helen Wauters of Victor and Henrietta Malloy of Oxford. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one grandson, Joe Thuerauf; two brothers, John and Harry VanOtegham; and one sister, Clara Anderson.
